About Lanzhou Stele Forest
Caosheng Pavilion is its architectural centre, with carved versions of works associated with the Chunhua model-book tradition, Dunhuang manuscripts and early writing on slips. The interest lies in comparing scripts and the process of translating brushwork into stone. These displays include recut works, so they should not all be mistaken for original archaeological steles.
What to look for
- Caosheng Pavilion and its inscribed plaques.
- Stone-rendered calligraphy drawn from the Chunhua tradition, Dunhuang manuscripts and early slips.
The surrounding area
