History
The district took shape in January 1997 when the former county-level city of Yibin was abolished and Cuiping was established. Its rivers place it at the beginning of the main Yangtze channel.
What to see
Lizhuang Ancient Town (李庄古镇) preserves groups of Ming- and Qing-period buildings and memories of academic institutions’ wartime move inland. Its sights include Xuanluo Hall (旋螺殿) and a museum presenting that wartime history.
Food and local products
The district government identifies the “Three Whites of Lizhuang” (李庄三白) as white pork, baijiu and white cake. These named foods and drink accompany the town’s architectural and wartime cultural attractions.
