History

The present district was established in July 2018 when Yibin County (宜宾县) was abolished. Its name recalls an older change in 1114, when Rongzhou (戎州) was renamed Xuzhou and Bodao County (僰道县) became Yibin County.

What to see

Shicheng Mountain Forest Park (石城山森林公园) lies in Hengjiang Town (横江镇), 51 kilometres from Yibin’s main urban area. Its landscape combines mountain woodland with cultural sites. Other district landscapes include the camphor forests around the Yuexi River (越溪河世界樟海), tea landscapes on Tiangong Mountain (天宫山千年茶海) and the reservoir scenery at Xiangjiaba (向家坝), where the hydropower station is situated.
