History

Xingbei is a recent addition to the district: the Qitaihe city government records that the province approved the town in August 2022, created within Xinxing District (新兴区) and then placed under Qiezihe. The district's 2026 work report lists 13 coal mines upgraded with automated systems in the previous year and six producing mines back at work.

What to see

Sixin village (四新村) in Tieshan township is the district's model for farm tourism and a national AAA-rated scenic area. Its best-known feature is a 35,000-square-metre field of moss phlox (芝樱) on the south shore of Sixin Lake (四新湖); the Heilongjiang Department of Culture and Tourism reported that a moss phlox tourism season opened there in 2025. China Daily notes that the village is listed as a national demonstration village for rural governance and one of China's beautiful leisure villages, and that a 10-kilometre village run linked Sixin Reservoir (四新水库), the Shirong deer farm (世荣鹿场), the flower fields and fruit and vegetable picking gardens.

Food and local products

At the 2023 moss phlox food festival, China News described free-range chicken, reservoir fish and wild mountain vegetables among the food on offer, and strawberries, melons and grapes for picking. Sixin also rents out 160 vegetable plots, 15,000 square metres in all, to city residents. The district report says plantings of Chinese medicinal herbs and large-fruited hazelnuts are growing, and names an ice and snow festival alongside the moss phlox festival.
