Papermaking at Cai Lun’s memorial
Cai Lun’s Tomb and Shrine (蔡伦墓祠) stands in Longting Village (龙亭村), eight kilometres east of the county seat. Ancient cypresses, halls and inscribed stones surround the memorial. A paper-culture museum lies west of the tomb. Demonstrations use paper-mulberry bark, soaking and steaming it before cutting, pounding and lifting the fibres on a bamboo screen; drying completes the sheet.
Birds and orchards
Seven wild crested ibises were found at Yaojiagou (姚家沟) in 1981. The county’s conservation measures include wetland restoration and woodland protection. Liushan Village (柳山村), in Longting Town (龙亭镇), offers another rural setting: nectarine orchards where visitors pick fruit. The village also grows kiwifruit, citrus and pomegranates, extending the agricultural landscape beyond peaches.
