Setting and landscape
The Jinqian River (金钱河) and Xiejia River (谢家河) feed the Han River (汉江), while the Yinhua River (银花河) joins the Dan River (丹江). Tianzhu Mountain (天竺山) is one of the county’s named scenic destinations. In the southeast, Tianzhushan Nature Reserve (天竺山自然保护区), established as a provincial reserve in 2001, protects forest musk deer and their habitat.
What to see
Other destinations include Manchuan Old Town (漫川古镇), Moon Cave (月亮洞) and Tianpeng Shanzhai (天蓬山寨). The local performing tradition includes Manchuan Dadiao (漫川大调). Shanyang’s mountain products include walnuts, tea, dried hanging noodles and Jiuyan lotus roots (九眼莲); its government also identifies edible fungi among the county’s agricultural industries.
