About Eighth Route Army Xi’an Office Memorial
From 1937 to 1946 it served as a liaison and supply base connecting Communist forces with the Nationalist-controlled city. The surviving single-storey brick-and-timber rooms make that work tangible: reception, office, communications and domestic spaces were fitted into an ordinary courtyard layout.
The premises housed a French doctor's dental clinic before being rented in April 1936. They form part of a south-facing group of ten courtyards and measure 82 metres north-south and 17 metres east-west, covering more than 1,300 square metres. The single-storey brick-and-timber buildings have flush-gabled roofs and adobe walls faced with brick, with gates on the south, west and north sides. The site was converted into a memorial museum in 1959 and listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level (全国重点文物保护单位) in 1988.
