Museum and historic workshops

The Fenjiu Museum (汾酒博物馆) uses objects, models, calligraphy, paintings and animation to explain the liquor’s history. The historic Xinghuacun Fenjiu Workshop (杏花村汾酒作坊), at Dongbao Village (东堡村), retains a Yuan dynasty well and Qing buildings. Its Workshop Courtyard (作坊院) preserves six late-Qing buildings; the Baoquan Courtyard (宝泉院) contains a well pavilion. The workshop gained national cultural relic protection in May 2006.

Distilling heritage

Fenjiu is a light-aroma baijiu, described by Lüliang’s government as having a mild entry, sweet finish and lingering aroma. Its traditional production technique entered the first national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006. A reconstructed workshop in the museum’s eastern courtyard demonstrates hand-operated production modelled on Ming and Qing practice.
