History
The district was created in 1973 when the concentrated industrial and mining areas were divided into eastern and western administrative districts, using Xinzhuang Bridge (新庄大桥) as the boundary. The eastern district focused on metallurgy and municipal functions. Its name changed with the city when Dukou (渡口) became Panzhihua in 1987.
What to see
Lanjian Story Museum (兰尖故事博物馆), on Lanpu Road (兰谱路) in Guaziping (瓜子坪), presents mining life through equipment and reconstructed scenes. In Panzhihua Park (攀枝花公园), the Heroes Monument (攀枝花英雄纪念碑) has three faces shaped like the Chinese character for a person, above a base named Wuhu Sihai (五湖四海), meaning all corners of the country.
