What to see
At Ertan National Forest Park (二滩国家森林公园), the dam crosses the Yalong River (雅砻江), with wooded hills rising around the reservoir and deep gorges. Gesala Ecological Tourism Area (格萨拉生态旅游景区) combines stone forests, highland meadows and forest. Rhododendrons add colour to the mountains in late spring, and Yi (彝族) culture is part of the area’s visitor experience.
Food and local products
Guosheng Township (国胜乡) offers tea-garden visits that include picking new shoots, learning about tea-making and tasting the finished tea.
Getting oriented
The county government is in Tongzilin Town (桐子林镇), 30 kilometres from central Panzhihua. The Chengdu–Kunming Railway (成昆铁路) runs through the county.
