The timber station
Jiji Railway Station (集集火車站) was built in 1933 using cypress wood. After damage in the September 21 earthquake, reconstruction retained its Japanese-style timber exterior. A retired steam locomotive stands diagonally opposite the station. The branch line’s trains were developed into painted tourist trains in 1994, marking a change from the railway’s earlier transport role.
A tunnel of camphor trees
Jiji Green Tunnel (集集綠色隧道) is a 4.5-kilometre tree-lined road between Jiji and Mingjian Township (名間鄉). Camphor trees planted in 1940 now spread their branches across the road. The railway runs beside it, while the shaded corridor is also a route for cycling through the area.
