Timber-town remains
Checheng retains its old timber-storage pond, a forestry exhibition hall and an old street. The former Zhenchang timber business (振昌木業) became the Linbandao shopping complex (林班道商場), with craft activities, food and creative shops occupying part of the old industrial setting.
Railway buildings and equipment
Checheng Station (車埕車站) is a terminus of the Jiji branch line (集集支線). Restored Japanese-style staff housing recreates the living spaces of station employees, while an old warehouse and locomotive-depot remains form part of the railway cultural area. The signal box was moved here from Zhunan Station (竹南站) in 2004. Before railway electrification, such signal boxes controlled train movements within station yards.
