Soldiers in sculpture
The Chinese Expeditionary Force Sculpture Group (中国远征军雕塑群) was completed on 3 September 2013. It occupies 17,400 square metres and contains 402 sculptures arranged in twelve formations. These include generals, child soldiers, women soldiers, veterans, warhorses and military vehicles. The number 402 refers to the force’s first expedition into Burma in 1942.
Tunnels and a scarred tree
At Daorenping (道人坪), Chinese engineers began the two tunnels used to attack the Japanese bunkers on the main peak. Each tunnel extended 150 metres; the bunkers were destroyed by explosives on 20 August 1944. Other remains include a tree bearing bullet holes and a cemetery stele erected by commander Xiong Shouchun (熊绶春) for the fallen soldiers of the 103rd Division.
