The caves lie near the meeting of the Qujiang River (衢江) and Lingshan River (灵山江). Large stone pillars support sloping ceilings, and regular chisel patterns cover the walls, roofs and columns. The county’s2020 description leaves their construction date and original purpose unresolved. It records the chambers being revealed in1992, when local residents pumped water out of a pond.
Old houses and a scholar’s memory
The residential garden brings together protected old dwellings. Its entrance memorial arch commemorates Liu Zhang (刘章), a Southern Song scholar who achieved first place in the imperial examination in 1145. Local streets also recall his reputation for integrity. Heyang Bridge (贺羊桥) connects that memory with his contribution to a safer river crossing.
