Three turns before the Nu River
In Bitu Township, the Yuqu River (玉曲河) makes three successive half-turns before joining the Nu River (怒江). This scenic area lies about 160 kilometres from the county seat. Cliffs and tall old trees line the banks, while grass and flowers cover the mountaintops. The river varies from twenty to eighty metres wide, with rapid water at the bends.
Monasteries across the river
The three monasteries lie about forty-six kilometres from the county seat. Zogang Monastery (左贡寺) stands on Xiangbi Mountain (象鼻山) in Yazhong Village (亚中村). Tuka Monastery (土卡寺) and Tiantuo Monastery (田妥寺) occupy slopes on either side of Tiantuo Village (田妥村), facing one another across a river. Both have finely carved architectural details.
Entry & permits for Tibet (Xizang)
Foreign tourists need Tibet entry approval, commonly called a Tibet Travel Permit, and an organised visit arranged through a specialist travel agency in China. Confirm your approved route before booking transport. Requirements differ for Taiwan residents and for travellers using mainland or Hong Kong/Macao Chinese resident documents; check the document guide before you book.
