Setting and landscape
The land is flat. Five rivers cross the district, among them the Pu (蒲河), Xi (细河), Xiaohun (小浑河) and Jiulong (九龙河), and green corridors follow the Hun (浑河) and the Pu. Dingxiang Lake (丁香湖), which the district government calls the largest lake within Shenyang's urban area, lies here. Away from the built-up east, the centre of the district grows rice, the northwest soybeans and livestock, and the southwest melons and fruit.
What to see
Yong'an Bridge (永安桥), a stone arch bridge in Yong'an village (永安村), Masanjia subdistrict (马三家街道), was built in 1641 under the early Qing. It runs east to west for 37 metres over an old bed of the Pu River, and a stele at its end records its construction by imperial order in Manchu, Chinese and Mongolian. It was in Liaoning's first batch of provincial heritage sites and is a national key cultural relic in the eighth batch. The district government also points to the Puhe Imperial Road (蒲河御路), which it links with the prosperous reigns of the Kangxi and Qianlong emperors.
Local traditions the district government names include Xibe (锡伯) folk tales, the Zhong family's porcelain carving (钟氏刻瓷) and the Hui dragon and lion dance (回族龙狮舞).
Getting oriented
Shenyang West railway station (沈阳西站), on the Beijing–Shenyang high-speed line, is in the district, and the Beijing–Shenyang and Shenyang–Dalian expressways and the Qinhuangdao–Shenyang and Shenyang–Shanhaiguan railways pass through. Metro lines 1, 2, 9 and 10 reach Yuhong.
