The palace axis
Qingyun Palace follows a symmetrical plan centred on a main axis. Along that line stand an ornamental gateway, the Nine Dragon Wall (九龙壁), the mountain gate and a succession of halls. These include Lingguan Hall (灵官殿), Yuanjun Hall (元君殿), the Jade Emperor Hall (玉皇殿) and Daode Hall (道德殿), followed by Deshan (德山).
Courtyards and neighbouring sights
Bell and drum towers and subsidiary halls stand to either side of the main axis. The side buildings include Zhenwu Hall (真武殿), the God of Wealth Hall (财神殿) and Wenchang Hall (文昌殿), together with eastern and western courtyards. Qingyun Palace and Haidao Jinshan Temple (海岛金山寺) face one another along a north–south line.
