Names and landscape
Yuci has also been known as Weiyu (魏榆), Tushui (涂水) and Zhongdu (中都). Its present name goes back to the Warring States period. In September 1999, the administrative reorganisation establishing Jinzhong as a prefecture-level city converted Yuci City into Yuci District.
Old town, manor and village
Yuci Old Town (榆次老城) and the Chang Family Compound (常家庄园) appear together on Jinzhong’s 2025 merchant-heritage itinerary. Hougou Ancient Village (后沟古村) features on its ancient-village route. The Shanxi Culture and Tourism Department also lists Wujinshan National Forest Park (乌金山国家森林公园).
Local noodles
Taohua noodles (桃花面) are a named Yuci food: the provincial culture and tourism department lists them among dishes to try around Yuci Old Town.
