Sculpture and the old town
Xiaoxitian, originally called Qianfo’an (千佛庵), was founded during the Ming Chongzhen reign. Its Mahavira Hall (大雄宝殿) contains nearly two thousand gilded suspended sculptures within 169.6 square metres. Layered celestial palaces surround figures ranging from more than three metres tall to the size of a thumb. Elsewhere in the county town, the Drum Tower (鼓楼), built during the Ming Wanli reign, stands at a crossroads.
Pear-growing country
Xixian has a long history of growing pears, including Jinli (金梨), Tieli (铁梨), Xianshuili (鲜水梨) and Muguali (木瓜梨). Yuluxiang pears continue that tradition. Beyond the temple, named county destinations include the China Pear Expo Garden (中国梨博园), Niujiagou Ecological Leisure Valley (牛家沟生态休闲谷) and Jinxi Revolutionary Memorial Hall (晋西革命纪念馆).
