A riverside grotto garden
Diaoyutai (钓鱼台), in Yangjiawan Town (杨家湾镇), lies eight kilometres from the county town. The Ming official Chen Qiyu (陈奇瑜) commissioned this large garden-like grotto complex in 1644. Its features include his study, Buddhist pavilions, a scripture cave, an old well and a former ferry landing. A gateway bears an inscription referring to the site’s formidable natural setting.
Dates from Fengjiachuan
Fengjiachuan (冯家川), in southwestern Baode, is associated with the county’s red dates. The fruit has small stones, thin skins and thick flesh. Cultivation draws on water from the Yellow River floodplain, fertile soil and local experience in tending date trees.
