History
The family residence became a commemorative shrine during the Yuan dynasty. Fire destroyed it in the late Ming period; it was rebuilt on the original site in 1665. Su Shi spent years here, and his writings recall scenes from his childhood in the house.
What to see
Red walls enclose a garden of bamboo, water, old ginkgo trees and huangge trees (黄葛). The shrine stands on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides. Surviving buildings and family traces accompany collections of documents and objects relating to the three writers. Displays cover their family teachings, lives and achievements, alongside a stele collection reproducing Su Shi’s calligraphy.
