Xianshi Ancient Town
Xianshi Ancient Town (仙市古镇) stands beside the Fuxi River, 11 kilometres southeast of Zigong. Hills enclose three sides and water faces the fourth. Its predominantly Ming- and Qing-style southern Sichuan houses preserve a townscape of four streets, five temples, an ancestral hall and three wharves. The town forms part of Zigong’s well-salt, salt-transport and dockside history.
Local vinegar
Taiyuanjing sun-aged vinegar (太源井晒醋) uses herbs to prepare its fermentation starter. Steaming, fermentation, sun exposure and ageing form the four main stages, with more than two years of sun-ageing. The Yantan District government describes the resulting vinegar as rich, mellow, sweet and sour.
