Factory buildings
Artists work in the former single workers’ dormitories beneath rain trees. The Japanese-style wooden factory manager’s residence has been adapted as a teahouse. The factory is reached from Ciaotou Sugar Refinery metro station (橋頭糖廠站), beside the wooded grounds.
Ice treats and braised pork
Factory-made ice pops include pineapple, taro, longan, peanut and salted egg yolk flavours. Red-bean yeast ice (紅豆酵母冰) combines a fermented flavour with sweetened red beans. In the district centre, Qiaozaitou Huang Family Braised Pork Rice (橋仔頭黃家肉燥飯) uses hand-cut fresh pork, combining belly, shoulder and hind-leg meat in a long braise. Its pork soup uses cabbage and dried flatfish in the stock.
