What to see

Three darkened kilns stand beside the road at Sanhe, whose buildings are recognised as historic architecture. Roof tiles, bricks and pottery connect the site with southern Taiwan’s traditional building trades. Handwork includes moulding tiles and firing them with wood and rice grain; its brick and tile products serve traditional construction and heritage repairs.

Setting and landscape

Old Railway Bridge Wetland Ecological Park (舊鐵橋濕地生態公園) runs along the Gaoping River (高屏溪), from Gaoping Bridge (高屏大橋) to floodplain land north of the old railway bridge. It includes artificial wetland pools and a cycleway. Reeds and ponds form part of its riverbed views.

Buddhist landmarks

Fo Guang Shan Temple (佛光山寺) occupies a hillside selected by its founder, Master Hsing Yun (星雲), overlooking the Gaoping River. The neighbouring Buddha Museum (佛陀紀念館) held its foundation ceremony in January 2003 and its inauguration on 25 December 2011.
