What to see

The Former Dinglinzibian Police Station (原頂林仔邊警察官吏派出所), established in 1898, stands within the market on Fuxing Street. Its Japanese-style brick-and-timber buildings include living quarters, a garden, an old well, a water tower and an air-raid shelter. The shelter has coral-stone walls with a brick-pillared, arched entrance. Exhibits introduce the dormitory’s construction and local produce, including onions and giant grouper.

Harbours and archaeology

Shanwei Fishing Harbour (汕尾漁港) uses the Gaoping River (高屏溪) waterway. Before Shuangyuan Bridge (雙園大橋), bamboo rafts crossed from here toward Donggang (東港). At Fengbitou Site (鳳鼻頭遺址) in Zhongmen (中門), excavations have yielded pottery, stone tools, fishing-net weights and shell middens from several prehistoric cultural layers.
