A bookshop with a tower
Designed by Zhang Ke (张轲), Mengzi’s Southwest Associated University Librairie Avant-Garde (西南联大先锋书店) retains the bell tower behind a former tavern and some of its brick buildings. A spiral staircase leads up the tower to views of the lake and hills. Inside are a university-themed book area, a humanities corridor, a lakeside leisure area and spaces for children and public activities.
Noodles and fruit
Crossing-the-bridge rice noodles (过桥米线) are closely associated with Mengzi; the municipal government identifies the city as their place of origin. Pomegranates, loquats and blueberries are among its characteristic fruit crops. The city has a subtropical plateau monsoon climate, with rain and warmth arriving in the same season.
