Lu-family houses and archways

The Lu family settled here during the Song dynasty and built substantial residences through the mid-Qing period. Their surviving buildings form a coherent Ming- and Qing-period residential complex, nationally protected since 1988. The Da Fang Bo Stone Archway (大方伯石牌坊), rebuilt in 1997, has three openings, four pillars and five roofed tiers, with stone lions beside its columns.

Carving and countryside produce

Dongyang’s traditional homes combine woodcarving with bamboo weaving, stone carving, brick carving and applied relief decoration. Beyond the houses, the city has a long history of processing ham and growing Chinese torreya. Old torreya trees reflect the longevity of that farming tradition.
