The Jiaxi gorge
Shibawo lies in the county’s northeastern plateau area. Along Jiaxi (夹溪), steep opposing rock walls confine a narrow, winding stream. Waterfalls, swirling pools and deep basins characterise the gorge, giving the landscape a close connection between running water and exposed rock.
Tea and medicinal plants
Medicinal-herb farming and trade are established parts of the local economy, including cultivation among woodland. The county’s 2023 report identifies tea culture and the Kong Family Temple (孔氏家庙) as focuses of heritage protection. At Shanlilao Huangjing Courtyard (山里佬黄精小院) in Chuankeng (川坑), Solomon’s seal (黄精) is incorporated into courtyard decoration, surrounding planting and dishes such as chicken, tea and beans, showing how herb traditions extend into food and design.
