Fangyan and its historical figure
Fangyan (方岩) has been known as a scenic destination since the Song dynasty. Its temple tradition honours Hu Ze (胡则), a Northern Song official remembered for requesting relief from personal taxation. Worship associated with his memorial developed into a temple fair, making a historical official central to the mountain’s cultural identity.
Performance and metal crafts
The fair’s traditional procession brings together a carved shrine, martial-arts performers and song-and-dance groups. Paper flowers and toys form part of the associated craft heritage. Yongkang’s metalworking culture includes gold and silver work, copper craft, tin carving, scale-making and iron casting; the last was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2021.
