Five stages of falling water
Wuxie takes its name from a waterfall that drops through five stages. The wider landscape includes Wuxie Lake (五泄湖), wooded slopes, streams and pools. The separate falls have different forms, while the lake sits between green hills. Rock formations and valleys extend the scenery beyond the waterfall itself.
Courtyard buildings in the villages
Shisidu Village (十四都村) includes the Canglü buildings (藏绿古建筑) and Zhou Ancestral Hall (周氏宗祠), with Qing-period architecture forming an important part of its identity. The Canglü houses arrange successive halls along an axis with side rooms. At Majian (马剑镇), the Dai Ancestral Hall (戴氏宗祠) houses exhibitions of named historical figures and local folk culture in another historic building.
