Setting and landscape

The four towns are Tieling (铁岭), Hualin (桦林), Wulin (五林) and Modaoshi (磨刀石). Wulin was transferred to the district from Linkou County (林口县) with provincial approval. Hualin lies 15 kilometres from the city, borders Linkou to the east and has the Mudan River (牡丹江) as its northwest boundary. The district government describes Yangming as the only district in the city that combines urban, rural and border roles.

What to see

The Lazigou Beacon Tower (砬子沟烽火台) is the district's entry in the sixth batch of Heilongjiang provincial protected sites, published in 2014. Chinese Wikipedia names Tieling Nanshan (铁岭南山), Daobagou (刀把沟) and Lazigou (砬子沟) under the district's tourism and culture.

Getting oriented

The Harbin–Suifenhe railway (滨绥铁路) crosses the district. Its Modaoshi station, built in 1901, lies 377 kilometres from Harbin and 115 kilometres from Suifenhe. The Harbin–Suifenhe and Hegang–Dalian highways (哈绥公路, 鹤大公路) also pass through, and the provincial Yangming Economic Development Zone sits at Modaoshi beside National Highway 301.
