History

Shuncheng was known as the Fushun suburban district (抚顺市郊区) until 1988, when the State Council approved its present name. It was mainly rural until the 1999 boundary changes. That year the Liaoning provincial government transferred Tayu (塔峪镇), Lishi (李石镇) and Gaowan (高湾街道) from Shuncheng to Wanghua District (望花区).

What to see

The district government lists the remains of Han-dynasty tombs, a Liao pagoda and the war criminals management centre (战犯管理所) among its historic sites. Gaoershan Park (高尔山公园), a wooded park in the middle of the city, and the banks of the Hun River (浑河) are the green spaces the district government singles out. On the edge of town, the Liandao Bay peony garden (莲岛湾芍药园) and a Xibe rose garden (锡伯族玫瑰园) draw visitors for picking and flower viewing.

Food and local products

Mala ban (麻辣拌), a spicy mixed dish, is promoted by the district government as a food brand that spread from Shuncheng across China. Local food processors are known for sausage casings, mushroom sauce and rose products, and the villages grow wild mountain vegetables and edible fungi.

Getting oriented

Fushun Station (抚顺站), at 27 Xinhua Avenue in Shuncheng, serves the Shenyang–Jilin railway, the Shenyang–Fushun intercity line and the Shenyang–Baihe high-speed line. The station was built in 1926 and took back its original name in May 2025 after years as Fushun North. The district government puts Shenyang Taoxian Airport 40 kilometres away.
