Where the rivers meet
The Wei enters the Yellow River at Huayuankou (花园口) in Qindong Town (秦东镇). Tongguan Ancient City Scenic Area (潼关古城景区) occupies the site of the former town and combines river scenery with cultural displays. Its features include a bell tower and a plaza of stone sculptures representing the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac.
Reading the older town
The county government distinguishes surviving city-wall and gate-tower remains from newer or restored visitor sites. Shuipo Lane (水坡巷) preserves a Tang-period well, a tree associated with the Qianlong reign (乾隆), and Ming- and Qing-period houses. The former riverside county seat was relocated in 1960 following preparations for Sanmenxia Reservoir (三门峡水库).
