Winter on the Yellow River
The Pinglu Yellow River Wetland (平陆黄河湿地) lies on the Shanxi–Henan boundary. Swans arrive from Siberia in late autumn and early winter to spend the cold season here. The wetland covers more than 6,000 hectares, with open water on which the wintering birds gather.
Orchards between hill and river
Pinglu’s agricultural landscape lies between the Zhongtiao Mountains (中条山) and the Yellow River. Fruit production includes Red Fuji apples (红富士苹果), Tuntun jujubes (屯屯枣) and shuihua persimmons (水化柿). The county also grows lilies. Its riverside and upland areas have different temperatures, reflected in the local saying that the weather changes repeatedly on the journey uphill.
