Yongle Palace and its murals
Yongle Palace was built between 1247 and 1358. Originally at Yongle Town (永乐镇), it was relocated between 1959 and 1965 because its site fell within the planned Sanmenxia Reservoir (三门峡水库) inundation area. Four Yuan timber buildings stand along its central axis. The murals in Sanqing Hall (三清殿), completed in 1325, depict a great assembly of Taoist deities.
An earlier timber hall
Guangrenwang Temple stands northwest of Yongle Palace. Dating to 831, its main hall is five bays wide and three bays deep. There are no interior columns: the exposed roof framing and large brackets reveal the building’s structural arrangement.
