The family courtyard
Deng Xiaoping (邓小平) was born in the north wing in 1904 and spent his first fifteen years here. The west-facing house has seventeen rooms arranged around a three-sided courtyard, with timber framing, grey tiles and whitewashed walls. Inside, the family's workshop was divided between milling and wine-making; a stone mill remains in the milling room.
A life in exhibits
The Deng Xiaoping Former Residence Exhibition Hall (邓小平故居陈列馆) uses objects, documents, photographs and audiovisual material to present his life. Five thematic units across three exhibition rooms follow his departure from Guang'an, military career, political struggles and later achievements. The wider hometown scenic area also includes Xiexing Old Street (协兴老街) and Foshou Mountain (佛手山).
