Stone pillars and shifting views
The Thousand-Year Kiss (千年一吻) consists of two limestone pillars rising from the same base, about fifteen metres high. From one angle their upper sections appear separated; from another they seem to touch like kissing faces. The surrounding stone forest records the uneven effects of dissolution and weathering, with water eroding joints in the exposed limestone and leaving pillars and pinnacles.
An industrial mountain city
Huaying became a city in 1985, following the establishment of an industrial and agricultural district in 1978. It was an important industrial base in the Third Front construction programme (三线建设). It is also the hometown of An Bing (安丙), a military commander of the Southern Song dynasty (南宋).
