History
The district grew from the former Neijiang County (内江县). Its administrative history begins with Han’an (汉安), established during the Eastern Han dynasty; the name changed to Zhongjiang (中江) under the Northern Zhou and Neijiang under the Sui. The county became Dongxing District in November 1989.
What to see
Daqian Garden (大千园) brings together the Zhang Daqian Memorial Hall (张大千纪念馆), Zhang Daqian Museum (张大千博物馆) and Zhang Daqian Art Museum (张大千美术馆), with painting and calligraphy as their central theme. Fan Changjiang Cultural Tourism Park (范长江文化旅游园区) is another named cultural destination. Nearby Zhengzi Village (正子村) offers countryside walks or cycling, strawberry picking and visits to medicinal-plant growing areas.
