An academy of carved brick
Dadu Elementary School (大肚國小), founded in 1899, originally occupied the academy. Brick carvings decorate its walls and the surrounds of doors and windows. The entrance gate, worship hall and main hall are among the academy’s structures. Five Wenchang deities (五文昌), associated with study and examinations, are worshipped here. Vase motifs express wishes for peace, while turtle patterns convey longevity.
Railway buildings
Dadu Station (大肚車站) retains a flat-roofed reinforced-concrete building constructed in 1977. At Zhuifen Station (追分車站), the 1922 cypress building combines a Chinese-style roof, black Japanese tiles and window frames with Western influences. A surrounding veranda supported by Y-shaped posts provides shelter from rain.
