Temple and old-town landmarks
Dajia Zhenlan Temple (大甲鎮瀾宮) dates its foundation to 1732. Its pillars, walls, ceilings and roof carry decorative artwork; vase carvings express wishes for peace. The Lin Chastity and Filial Piety Arch (林氏貞孝坊) stands beside the old south gate. Wenchang Shrine (文昌祠) combines architectural elements from the Qing and Japanese periods.
Taro and market snacks
Dajia First Market (大甲第一市場) offers taro (芋頭), fenchang sausage (粉腸) and butter pastries (奶油酥餅). Taro appears in sweet and savoury dishes, hot and cold preparations, and drinks. Taro balls and taro milk are two examples. The local fenchang has a springy texture that the Taichung Education Bureau compares with meat dumplings.
