Temple and waterway

Taixing Temple (泰興宮), completed in 1856, principally worships the Kings of the Three Mountains (三山國王). Its plaques, couplets and archways carry inscriptions in regular and running scripts. Behind the temple lies Wubei Hill (屋背山), whose reclining-ox shape figures in local feng shui beliefs. Chuanlung Canal (穿龍圳) draws water from Ruanpikeng Stream (軟埤坑溪); it served irrigation and defence, and parts of the former moat remain visible.

Hakka dishes

Damaopu snacks include radish cakes (蘿蔔糕), taro cakes (芋粄) and mugwort cakes (艾粄). In Dongshi, Hakka stir-fry (客家小炒), ginger intestines (薑絲大腸) and pork with preserved vegetables (梅干扣肉) offer further examples of local Hakka cooking.
