Shigang District 石岡區

Shigang District (石岡區) combines Hakka cultural places with former agricultural and railway buildings in Taichung’s hill country. The wooden Japanese-style rice granary (石岡穀倉) once stored and processed rice, preserving traces of the district’s farming economy.

A platform and painted village

The former Shigang station’s Lingdan platform (零擔月台), now popularly called 0 Egg Platform (0蛋月臺), served passengers and retail goods. It became a rest stop on the Dongfeng cycling corridor, with a railway carriage and station sign. Nearby Jiufang (九房) has three-dimensional murals based on fairy tales, including Jack and the Beanstalk and The Little Match Girl.

A reconstructed Hakka house

Tuniu Hakka Cultural Hall (土牛客家文化館) occupies the Liu family compound site. After earthquake damage, it was reconstructed with displays and multimedia about Hakka life. Shigang’s landscape also includes the dam overlooking the Dajia River valley. A July 2026 official report describes high-grafted pears as a local summer crop.
