A building designed for tobacco
The monopoly bureau began developing the station in 1955 as tobacco production increased after the Second World War. Staff graded, assessed and priced leaves brought by growers. Large north-facing windows admitted steady natural light for judging tobacco quality, while a spacious packing area accommodated produce and public weighing. The station ceased operating in 1994.
Tobacco interpretation and art
Restored and reopened in 2018, the building contains a tobacco-history interpretation area and space for local artists. The memorial museum introduces Chen Ting-shih (陳庭詩), a modern artist associated with iron sculpture who settled in Taiping. The reuse brings industrial memory and local artistic work into the same setting.
