Caoxi Temple

The temple was founded during the Dali Kingdom, in the Southern Song period. It entered Yunnan’s provincial list of protected cultural relics in 1965 and the national list of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level in 2006. The temple scenic area covers 2,370 square metres.

Gardens and spring scenery

Caoxi stands seven kilometres north of central Anning. From in front of the temple, visitors can look down across the hot-spring resort area. The grounds and their surroundings contain more than a hundred kinds of flowering plants and trees, including the well-known Yuanmei plum (元梅) and youtan flowers (优昙花). Pearl Spring (珍珠泉) is another feature of the temple’s setting.
