The Qiantang riverside
The river runs across Haining’s southern area, where the city’s cultural tourism links tidal scenery with the old town of Yanguan. Named riverside landmarks include Zhan’ao Tower (占鳌塔), Liangjiadun Scenic Area (梁家墩景区) in Dingqiao (丁桥), and the Wengjin route (翁金线). Yanguan was recognised as a provincial tourism resort in 2016.
Lantern streets and writers
The city’s 2017 cultural plan organised the old Xiashi area around East and West Mountains (东西山), with cultural areas including Nanguanxiang (南关厢), Ganhe Street (干河街) and Hengtou Street (横头街). Nanguanxiang has developed a concentration of lantern-related crafts and exhibitions. The city has also honoured poet Xu Zhimo (徐志摩), scholar Wang Guowei (王国维) and novelist Jin Yong (金庸) through cultural events.
