A family house by the water
Construction of the manor began in 1897 and took three years. It housed three generations of the family of Mo Fangmei (莫放梅). The enclosed compound faces south and stands alongside a street and river, with front halls and living accommodation arranged in a traditional sequence.
Rooms, gardens and carving
The layout has three groups of buildings, each four courtyards deep. Ancestral, reception and residential rooms are spread along three axes, with three gardens between them. Garden features include trees, pools, winding paths and ornamental rocks. Woodcarving, brick carving, furniture, paintings and household objects complete the displays. Pinghu has also held activities commemorating cultural figures Li Shutong (李叔同) and Lu Weizhao (陆维钊).
