Xitang’s riverside streets
Xitang’s streets follow the rivers, with houses built beside the water. Its cultural activities include traditional temple fairs, theatre and a Hanfu Culture Week (汉服文化周). The Qilaoye temple fair (七老爷庙会) and events celebrating playwright Gu Xidong (顾锡东) were promoted in the county’s 2017 tourism plan.
Painting and county displays
Wu Zhen, who lived from 1280 to 1354, came from Weitang (魏塘) and painted landscapes, fishermen and ink bamboo. His memorial hall (吴镇纪念馆) includes his tomb, inscriptions, pavilions and a bamboo-painting stele corridor. Jiashan Museum (嘉善博物馆) has permanent displays on the county’s past, field songs and kiln traditions, linking art and craft with the area’s everyday history.
