What to see

Yunlong Lake is a national 5A scenic area, and Jiuli Lake (九里湖) is a national wetland park. The district government also lists Pengzu Garden (彭祖园), Yanzi Tower (燕子楼) and the Su Gong Pagoda (苏公塔) among its historic sights, and describes the area as heir to the health-keeping lore of Pengzu (彭祖) and the tale of Jizi (季子) hanging up his sword to keep faith.

The Huaihai Campaign Memorial Park (淮海战役陵园) in the south of the city covers 770,000 square metres and commemorates the People's Liberation Army's victory in the Huaihai Campaign of the civil war. Its martyrs' tower, 38.15 metres high, carries nine gilded characters in Mao Zedong's handwriting, with reliefs of the battle on the base; the park also holds the campaign memorial hall, a statue group of the campaign's general front committee and a stele forest.

The Tushan Han Tombs (土山汉墓) lie at the northern foot of Yunlong Hill, next to the Xuzhou Museum (徐州博物馆). Tomb No. 1, found in 1969, yielded a jade burial suit sewn with silver thread from more than 2,600 jade pieces. Tomb No. 2, excavated from 2014 to 2020, held a painted lacquer coffin of an Eastern Han prince; archaeologists think it belonged to Liu Ying (刘英), King of Chu, or Liu Gong (刘恭), King of Pengcheng. The tombs are to be shown in place as part of the museum.

Getting oriented

The district government describes Quanshan as opening onto south-western Shandong to the north and northern Anhui to the west, and says it contains Asia's second-largest railway marshalling yard, the largest rail freight yard in East China and the largest inland port on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The China University of Mining and Technology (中国矿业大学) is one of more than ten universities and research institutes in Quanshan.
