Setting and landscape

The district government lists 25 natural lakes and wetlands in Longfeng, among them the Dongcheng Reservoir (东城水库), North Lake (北湖), Binzhou Lake (滨州湖), Liming Lake (黎明湖) and Sanyong Lake (三永湖). The Longfeng Wetland (龙凤湿地) is a provincial nature reserve of 5,050 hectares that the government describes as the largest wetland reserve inside a city in China. It was built up by sediment from the Nen River (嫩江), the Wuyur River (乌裕尔河) and the Shuangyang River (双阳河). The government records 128 bird species there, including six under first-class national protection such as the oriental stork, red-crowned crane and Siberian crane, as well as 46 fish species.

Winters are long, cold and dry and summers short, warm and wet; the coldest month averages -18.5°C and the warmest 23.3°C.

What to see

Seven large cultural venues stand in the district, among them the Daqing Opera House (大庆歌剧院), the Daqing Museum (大庆博物馆) and the Daqing Library (大庆图书馆). Chinese Wikipedia lists Longfeng Park (龙凤公园) and the Longfeng Wetland reserve as the district's notable sights. Five universities are based here, including Northeast Petroleum University (东北石油大学) and Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University (黑龙江八一农垦大学).

Many petrochemical and related companies are based in the district. PetroChina's Daqing Petrochemical (大庆石化) works is here, and its crude-oil processing capacity was raised to 10 million tonnes a year in 2020. The Daqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone and the Xinghua chemical park also lie within Longfeng.

Getting oriented

The district government calls Longfeng the eastern gateway of Daqing and its southern exit. The Binzhou railway (滨洲铁路) runs right through it, the Daguang (大广高速) and Suiman (绥满高速) expressways and China National Highway 301 cross it, and Daqing East railway station and the Daqing passenger transport hub are in the district.
