Building Qunfang Garden

Qunfang Garden (群芳园) was built in a traditional architectural style during Li Youchang’s (李友昌) time as park director. Liaoning Communist Party Member magazine (reproduced by People’s Daily Online) describes a specialist construction team led by an eighty-two-year-old craftsman. Li joined the team as an unpaid apprentice, living and working alongside its members to learn the craft and supervise the project. The garden was completed on schedule.

The Huai Xiang Path

The district subsequently built a stone-stepped route up Liangting Hill for residents’ climbing exercise. Because the hill had abundant flowering locust trees, the route received the name Huai Xiang Path (槐香径), meaning “locust-blossom fragrance path”.
